Walkers make excellent family horses. Their calm and willing nature makes them the world’s greatest trail pleasure horse. To try to explain how riding one of these magnificent animals feel like would be like trying to describe what a banana tastes like. Close to impossible, right? You just have to try one for yourself to gain the true appreciation that the rest of us Tennessee Walking Horse folk experience every time we go for a ride. TWH are not just show horses, although there is a great sense of pride that comes from getting out there and showing how well trained and gaited your mount is. They are one of the world’s most versatile equines. We use our horses for everything from afternoon trail rides and week long mountain adventures to jumping, gymkhana, working cattle and my personal favorite, competitive trail riding. Located only thirty minutes from beautiful Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, on sixty plus acres of prime horse land, we are blessed to have the opportunity to own a stallion that produces the most naturally gaited walking horses we have ever seen. With a newly built 140’x 60’ riding arena we are also pleased to offer training, specializing in finessing the gaits of gaited breeds and conditioning horses for those people who want to keep their horses show shape but are having trouble finding the time. Please contact us for more details.

Alberta Celebration 2009

The Alberta Celebration is A.W.H.A' s premier horse show of the year. This year we had the Honourable Diane Sept from the USA as our judge and a great turnout of very talented horses. A number of new faces which was great to see along with a number of spectators. A great time was had by all starting with the gymkhana events Friday night followed by the model/halter classes Saturday morning and after that the performance classes. This year we introduced gaited dressage as well as working trail pleasure which was a big hit. Expect to see more of these classes next year! Saturday night saw many exhibitors engaged in horsey discussions abound over a glass or 2 or maybe it was 12 (I lost count) of some of Shirley Wesslen's homemade wine. Thanks Shirley!! Amazing wine! Thanks again to our volunteers, without you the show would not have been as successful as it was. Thank you!

2009 Alberta Celebration Show Results

This summer saw me pretty busy with my long work commute and fully booked with training horses. As spring quickly slipped by I found myself without a horse ready for the show season. As I gazed out into the pasture my liver, chesnut roan sabino mare, "Fancy's Midnight Promise", caught my eye. She was happily grazing alongside her pasture mates getting fatter and fatter. A thought flashed through my head .... hmmmn... maybe Promise could be my show horse. Yeah, she had about 200lbs to lose and yeah she hadn't been ridden in 7 years (since she was started as a 3 year old) ... oh heck... why not? This is what I absolutely love about this breed, you can take a broodmare with 3 year old training after 7 years in the field and end up winning Model Champion, English 3 Gait Championship, Reserve 3 Gait Champion of Champions and Reserve High Point 3 Gait Champion in a just a couple of months. Wow! Not to mention I took her on her first competitive trail ride after only having trail rode her a few times where after 25 miles of hot, humid weather with a 73 horse turn out she came in 2nd place with a score only half a point off a perfect ride!

Her babies sell fast and with only one left for sale to an approved home only ...don't wait! Contact me for more details on this 4 year old mare with talent out the whazoo! Melody has been started and will make a very competitive horse in the show ring and/or competitive trail. I will post more info on our sale page soon.
